| Super outside linebacker that is very good in pass coverage. Natural linebacker instincts. Able to run with wide receivers in coverage. Quick and can slip blocks to make plays. Could move up and put his hand on the ground in college and could also be a solid tight end. Makes plays. |
| Biography: |
Edds is one of the top linebacker prospects in the Midwest. He'll be a four-year starter in 2005. As a junior, he had 139 tackles, 12 tackles for loss and 3 sacks. A.J. also played tight end for Greenwood and had 544 yards receiving and 4 touchdowns. He was named to the Indiana "Top 50" team by the Indiana Football Coaches Association.
Edds reports a 3.8 GPA/1190 SAT (old test)-no retake. Edds hopes to enroll in law school after undergrad.
Senior Stats: Edds has helped lead his team to a 4-1 record with 11 receptions for 150 yards (zero touchdowns). He has also scored two 2-point conversions. On defense he has about 60 total tackles and one caused fumble.
Edds - "I can play sideline to sideline and I'm very good when I drop into coverage. I'm also very good at reading and reaction. If the quarterback sees me one-on-one with a running back, he usually throw him a swing pass thinking that the running back is going to make a move and get by me. This isn't Texas or Florida, but I have just as much speed as any running back that I've played against. I'm good at dropping into zone coverage and making plays. I use my speed and athleticism to my advantage. I'm also great at man coverage on offense and I've got good hands.
"Most people categorize me as a linebacker and I think that's because of the film that has been sent out. But I can catch well and I can get upfield. I have good speed. But I'm not real big enough to be a good blocker yet," he said. "Last year I caught 26 balls for 544 yards."
