Vikings coach Mike Tice called Darrion Scott a “mean sucker” on more than one occasion on draft day 2004. Turns out, Scott isn’t as mean as portrayed off the field, but the coaching staff hopes that on-field presence translates into production on the football field.
2004: A shoulder injury caused him to miss four games during the beginning and middle of the season, but came on late, making his first two starts as a pro during the playoffs. Finished with 27 tackles and two fumble recoveries in the regular season, and six tackles, including a sack, in the postseason.
College: Three-year starter at Ohio State. Came to OSU as a linebacker, but played defensive tackle as a true freshman before shifting to end. Returned to tackle in his final season. Saw action in 48 games, starting 31 contests, as he recorded 136 tackles (78 solos) with 14-1⁄2 sacks for minus-86 yards, 25 stops for losses of 102 yards, 17 quarterback pressures, six forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. History major.
High School: Attended Capital (Charleston, W.V.) High. Two-time all-state selection. Saw action as a linebacker and fullback, rushing for 1,200 yards in his final year. Twice earned USA Today All-America honorable mention.
