| Biography: |
| As the only returning starter in Tennessee’s secondary, Allen looms as one of the team’s most valuable players. That explains his recent election as a junior captain. He’ll be counted on to provide superior play and leadership as the Vols attempt to revamp a defensive backfield that lost 2003 starters Jabari Greer, Gibril Wilson and Rashad Baker. Unusually big for a cornerback, Allen uses his size to great advantage in both run support and press coverage. 2003: Made first career start vs. Georgia and made game-by-game improvement thereafter. Best ames were 12-tackle effort against homestate Alabama Crimson Tide and 11-tackle performance vs. Miami. Had a game-saving pass breakup in final seconds of five-overtime win at Alabama. Intercepted passes vs. Marshall in Game 2 and Florida in Game 3. 2002: Lettered as a true freshman. Recorded five tackles (four of them coming on special teams) in limited action. HIGH SCHOOL: Enrolled at mid-term after graduating early from Muscle Shoals High, where he was rated the top prospect in Alabama and a top-50 player nationally. He was unable to participate in spring practice due to shoulder surgery. In high school he compiled 6,148 all-purpose yards, scored 75 touchdowns, nabbed 11 interceptions and broke up 13 passes during his career as a two-way starter in his high school career. Named Alabama Gatorade Player of the Year for 2001. Voted the No. 1 player in Alabama by both the Birmingham News and the Mobile Press-Register. Named to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Super Southern 100. Voted as the back of the year in Class 5A by the Alabama Sports Writers Association. Last season he rushed for 1740 yards and scored 24 touchdowns in 190 carries, while catching 12 passes for 173 yards and three scores. On defense he recorded 55 tackles, broke up eight passes and recovered three fumbles. Additionally, he returned six kickoffs for an average of 43 yards. Chose Vols over offers from LSU, Georgia, Auburn and Alabama. |
