Michigan baseball coach Rich Maloney has agreed to terms on a new contract that will keep the Roseville native in Ann Arbor for five more years. Maloney led the Wolverines to their first ever Super Regional appearance in 2007 and had the team ranked in the national Top 25 for multiple weeks during the year. Michigan has won at least 42 games the last three seasons under Maloney.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - After leading the Wolverines to their first ever Super Regional appearance in the NCAA Tournament, Rich Maloney has agreed to terms on a five-year contract that will keep the Wolverines head coach in Ann Arbor through the end of the 2012 season.

"This is a very happy moment for my family and I, and the Michigan baseball family, that I'll be staying at Michigan for the next five years at least," said Maloney. "I'm just extremely excited to work with this great group of guys and staff, and be part of the new stadium and enjoy being able to watch the dream that I had of the new stadium come to fruition."

Maloney has a record of 191-112 (.630%) in his five seasons at Michigan.

Taking over a team that was 21-32 in 2002, Maloney's hiring paid immediate dividends as he recorded a winning record of 30-27 in his first season at the helm of the Michigan program.

Michigan improved to 34-26 in 2004, and over the past three seasons have won 42, 42 and 43 games along the way to three NCAA Tournament appearances and two Big 10 championships.

Details of the contract will be released by the University at a later date.

"It would have been sad not to be part of this group of guys I assembled and not finish out our quest to make it to Omaha," continued Maloney. "I'm absolutely thrilled, my family is thrilled. I'm a Michigan man, we're Michigan people. I love the University of Michigan and I'm elated that this could be worked out and now I can just coach the team."
