Orhian Johnson, the 6-foot-4, 190-pound quarterback/athlete from Boca Ciega High School in Gulfport (Fla.), finished his junior season with over 1100 all-purpose yards. Johnson benches 225 pounds, squats 385 and has a 40-inch vertical jump.
"I'm very athletic," he said. "I can get out of sticky situations because I'm so athletic. I just like to go out and play.
"I want to work on my mechanics throwing the ball and improve my vision. I want to work on staying in the pocket," Johnson said.
Johnson says he's still very open, but favors Ohio State, South Florida, Indiana, Cincinnati and Florida. All of his favorites have offered except the Gators. He also has offers from Western Kentucky and Florida International (first to offer in March).
"I went to Florida last week for a one-day session and worked out for them," he said. "I ran a 4.5 forty and did well overall. I think I got their attention."
The only other school that Johnson has already visited is South Florida. "They are only 30 minutes away and although it's not a factor for me, my mom wants me to stay close," Johnson said. "I'm really impressed by how they've come up and are trying to be a top powerhouse in Florida."
He says that South Florida is recruiting him strictly for quarterback, as are Indiana and Cincinnati. However Ohio State wants him as an athlete. "Ohio State has so much history and their rivalries are so rich," he said. "It's just a great atmosphere for football and I feel like they are honest with me.
"I want to find a home away from home and play for coaches that are like family," Johnson said. "I just want to play football and get a good degree so I can have a good future.
"I won't narrow it down until after the season," he said. "I don't plan on committing until Signing Day."
Johnson says that growing up he never followed a specific school. "Whoever was winning I would watch," he admitted. "I never had a favorite."
Although he says he only wants to play football in college, Johnson also plays basketball and averages 10 points and 10 rebounds per game.
He reports a 3.4 core GPA and a 17 ACT.
