"Because they are only 20 minutes away, I always watched Minnesota a lot," said Willie Mobley, the defensive tackle from Eden Prairie. "But I don't care about staying close. My mom is going to move wherever I go, so the distance doesn't matter. My family is always going to be with me and I'm lucky..."

Willie Mobley, the 6-foot-2, 263 pound defensive tackle from Eden Prairie (Minn.), finished his junior year with 74 tackles and 12 sacks, leading his team to the 5A state championship.

"I feel like I'm a great athlete," Mobley said. "I learn things quickly and am very confident. I have great strength (benches 305 pounds, squats 405) and good quickness. I run the 40 in about 4.85 seconds. I get the job done and leave it all on the field. I have heart.

"I'm improving every year and I'm working on getting even faster," he said. "Speed kills in football and my main focus is speed and agility."

To help his agility, Mobley is taking yoga and jujitsu.

Although he denies a leader, Mobley has around a dozen offers and says he's looking at them all. "I'm interested in the schools that have offered me," he said. "I'll look at all of them, but right now I'm just focusing on getting better and winning another state title. I want to major in sports psychology and they need to have my major. Scenery doesn't matter, but I want to play and compete against the best. I want to spend four to five years in college and actually learn more about life and football."

Some of Mobley's offers are Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Arizona, Hawaii and Iowa State.

"Because they are only 20 minutes away, I always watched Minnesota a lot," Mobley said. "But I don't care about staying close. My mom is going to move wherever I go, so the distance doesn't matter. My family is always going to be with me and I'm lucky."

The Gophers were also Mobley's first offer earlier this year. "I like coach Tim Brewster a lot," he said. "He's bringing in the best of the best to his staff. He's really getting them ready to win and cares a lot about his players. It just seems like a very happy environment."

Another school that Mobley has always followed is USC. "I used to love watching the Pac-10, especially USC," he said. "It was them and Miami that I would watch a lot. My old teammate (Walker Ashley) used to go there before he transferred to Minnesota. I went to their camp and really liked it. I really hit it off with the coaches, but they aren't really recruiting me much right now, but we'll see."

Mobley plans on attending camps at UCLA, Arizona, Minnesota and Florida this summer. "Florida just won the national championship and I like that," Mobley said. "They are a winning team. They play with intensity and have great players. I love competition and I feel like I could go there and do well."

Besides Minnesota and USC, the only other school that Mobley has already visited is Iowa. "They love football there," he said. "You see nothing but Hawkeye stuff around there. It's a football state and they have great tradition. It's a beautiful campus and they have great fans."

He reports a 2.7 core GPA and is taking the ACT on April 20. Mobley will be taking a math class during summer school.
