CHICAGO, ILL. -- Martez Wilson of Chicago is named a 2007 U.S. Army All-American and will unite with fellow Illinois athletes, Aaron Nagel and Robert Hughes. They join a group of extraordinary student-athletes selected to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Saturday, January 6, 2007 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

This classic East vs. West match-up will be televised live on NBC at 12:00 Noon (CST) and will feature the nation’s top 80 high school football athletes.

Martez Wilson, a Scout Hot 100 member rated as the number two defensive end in the nation and a five-star prospect, is "cat-quick off the line and has very good quickness of the edge. He can speed rush right by you or use his natural power," said Jamie Newberg, national recruiting analyst for Scout.com. "Wilson can get after the quarterback and stop the run. He's terrific in pursuit because he has a wealth of speed and he also moves well down the line of scrimmage. Wilson has the frame to add a lot of weight. He needs to use his hands more and learn technique but that should come in time at the next level."

"Martez Wilson is a standout defensive end at Simeon H.S. and was one of 400 players nominated nationally and then ultimately selected by the U.S. Army All-American Bowl Selection Committee. The committee consists of Scout.com, Tom Lemming, and SportsLink. As a U.S. Army All-American, Wilson is eligible for the following honors: National H.S. Player of the Year Award, Walter Payton Trophy, AFL Ironman of the Year, U.S. Army Scholar Athlete Awards, and the Glenn Davis and Doc Blanchard U.S. Army Awards.

“Martez Wilson is one of the top defensive end prospects in the country,” said Garrett Shea, Director of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. “He shows tremendous speed and quickness off the edge, and is constantly in the backfield of his opponents. With his combination of size, speed and agility, he could develop into an unstoppable force. Martez Wilson is an excellent all-around athlete and the Bowl is proud to have him join the U.S. Army All-American class of 2007.”

Wilson has official visits set up with USC (11/25), Notre Dame (12/1), and Ohio State (12/8) and is also interested in Illinois, Michigan, and Wisconsin.
