Robinson Impressed with Notre Dame

It’s not often you see a high school junior from Nebraska offered this early by the Irish, but 6-foot-4, 285-pound Trevor Robinson has impressed the Irish coaches enough to be one of the first few 2008 players offered by the Irish coaching staff. What does Robinson think of Notre Dame?
Elkhorn, Neb. offensive lineman
Trevor Robinson
recently returned from another official visit to South Bend this past weekend and left impressed by Notre Dame.
“The game experience is great up there,” Robinson said. “I loved it. The crowd was really into the game. I really loved the whole pre-game atmosphere. You can’t find tradition like Notre Dame anywhere.”
But in the land of everything Husker, Robinson is very familiar with Nebraska as well.
“Yeah, you could say that,” said Robinson when asked if he grew up cheering for the Big Red. “I’ve been there a bunch of times. I probably go to two games a year there. I’ve been to camp there a couple of times.”
It was at Notre Dame’s camp this past summer where Robinson caught the attention of Notre Dame’s coaching staff.
“The whole thing is pretty overwhelming,” Robinson said of his Irish offer. “It seemed like they were genuinely interested, but with the whole NCAA thing, it’s kind of hard to know how much they really like you. I found out on September 1st. I was really excited about it.”
Robinson also picked up a couple of other offers and has a plan for recruiting.
“Right now I have offers from Notre Dame, Nebraska and Boston College,” he said. “I haven’t been to Boston College but it’s a place I’d like to go see. I have about 10 schools that I’m looking at right now. It’s really kind of early. I’ll probably take a look at a bunch of these schools and then see where I am about a decision.”
The Irish appear to be in good shape with Robinson early.
“I got to spend a lot of time with coach Ianello and coach Latina this weekend,” he said. “I got to speak to them before the game and during the pre-game on the field. I really like both of them. Coach Ianello is the coach recruiting me.
“I got to work with coach Latina during camp and got to get a feeling for how he coaches. I really liked working with him.”
But like all Nebraska kids, the Huskers are always hard to beat in their home state.
“Right now they’re one of my top teams,” Robinson said of Nebraska. “They have an advantage in that it’s in the vicinity of my home. My mom and dad can come see me play and that’s important to me.”
However, the Irish also appear they might be able to challenge the Huskers for Robinson’s signature.
“With Notre Dame it’s the academics,” he said. “That’s a big thing for me. I’m looking at the academic part of it just as much as football. It’s Notre Dame. It’s big-time college football. Coach Weis is a great coach and he’s been in the NFL. I also really liked working with coach Latina. I’d like to work with him in the future.”
In the end, it all comes down to one thing.
“My main goal is to win a National Championship,” he said. “I want to go to a school that has a shot to win it all. I’ll look at a number of things but that has to be the goal.’
