Cleveland Glenville’s Jermale Hines will visit Ohio State this weekend.
Hines, who has already visited Iowa and Michigan, received a scholarship offer
from the Buckeyes a few days before Christmas. Hines’ father Bob spoke about the
upcoming visit to Ohio State.
“Jermale is very excited about the trip to Columbus,” the
elder Hines said. “He has a basketball game this afternoon and then we are
leaving for Ohio State. My wife and I and our other sons will go along for the
visit also.”
Ohio State coach Luke Fickell has been recruiting Hines
and he has clearly made an impression on his father.
“Coach Fickell is a good man,” he explained. “He’s talked
to Jermale a lot. I believe Ohio State wants to start him out at safety and see
if he grows into a linebacker. Of course coach Fickell wants him at linebacker
from the start, since he coaches that position.”
He talked about his sons’ future plans and about the
possibility of a commitment to the Buckeyes this weekend.
“Jermale is scheduled to go to West Virginia next
weekend. Michigan calls a lot; in fact they called the house at 7 o’clock this
morning. We’re going to leave this decision entirely up to him. I think it’s
probably 50-50 that he would commit to Ohio State this weekend, but you never
know because we know how persuasive Jim Tressel can be,” he said with a
laugh.
The Hines family moved to Ohio from Georgia during
Jermale’s sophomore year. Ted Ginn Sr. has had quite an impact on the Hines
family.
“Coach Ginn has been wonderful to us,” he noted. “I’ve
got two other younger sons that will be playing for him also. He’s a great man
and I couldn’t be happier with the job he’s done, from his coaching and also how
he takes care of the boys off the field.”
Jermale
Hines couldn’t hide his happiness at finally receiving a Buckeye scholarship
offer. He has long been rumored to have Ohio State as his favorite. Now all of
Ohio will wait to see if Jim Tressel can land the services of this star player.
