With roots in Ohio, wide receiver Greg Mathews of Orlando (Fla.) Edgewater
appears to be one of the players from the Sunshine State that Ohio State might
have a chance signing at this season. Mathews plans to be in attendance to see
Ohio State take on Texas.
"I have not set up any officials yet," he said. "I won't for
awhile but I will be up for the Texas game."
In a recent article at PackPride.com, Mathews stated that Ohio State was not
in his top four but was on his list of schools to visit.
"Right now my top four is Miami, Michigan, LSU and NC State," he
said. "If I had to choose my official visits today, I’d visit Michigan,
Ohio State, LSU, Georgia and NC State.
Mathews told Bucknuts that family would play a role in his decision.
"I want to go somewhere where I can have some family," he said.
"Some kind of support system. I have family in Michigan and in Tallahassee,
but my mom is from Columbus and I still have family there."
Mathews talked to us earlier this month about what he planned to do with his
decision.
"I will make my decision based on academics and coaches," he said.
"My position coach will be very important to this. I plan on majoring in
physical education."
"I was going to commit before the season, but now that is not going to
happen," Mathews said. "I will likely commit during the season or
right after."
Mathews has reported offers from, among others, Oklahoma, Michigan, and Miami
(Fla.). All schools like him as a wide receiver.
"I am 6-4 195 and I will be playing corner this year and will return
kicks in addition to playing receiver," he said. "Everyone is
recruiting me as a receiver."
Mathews had 26 catches for 394 yards and four touchdowns in 2004. He starts
his season this week.
"We are starting our season this Friday against Olympia. We play at the
6A level. That is the biggest division down here," he said.
