Massillon's Andrew Dailey is listed as one of the top juniors in the state by
Ohio High magazine. Dailey, 6' 3" 210 pounds, is a hard hitting safety for
the Tigers who will also play wide receiver this season.
Dailey, who is also a fine baseball prospect, has been able to get around to
a few football camps this summer.
"I've been to Michigan, Illinois, Indiana and Notre Dame," said
Dailey. "I wanted to get to Ohio State but I was in a baseball tournament
that week. I hope to get down there this fall for a game. I was at the jersey
scrimmage in the spring."
Dailey ran an electronically timed 4.69 forty yard dash at the Michigan camp,
and a hand timed 4.59 at Notre Dame. This speed, combined with size and
strength, makes Dailey a top college prospect. He's just now beginning to name
his favorites.
"I like Michigan, Illinois, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech and Ohio
State," said Dailey. "At Michigan, I liked the atmosphere and they
want me to come back for an open house. Coach Zook was real impressive at
Illinois."
Andrew is playing summer baseball as well as working out with the football
team. He's looking ahead to this season with optimism. The Tigers have a new
coach, Tom Stacy, and Dailey thinks things will be better for Massillon.
"We're working hard to turn things around," said Dailey.
"Coach Stacy has the total respect of our team. I like what he's doing. He
talks about the Massillon tradition all the time. We're going to be more
disciplined as a team. I like the attitude of our team. We're hoping to have a
big season, get into the playoffs, and make a run.
"We have great senior leadership in Quentin Paulik, Antonio James, and
Brett Huffman. I'll be playing safety again and hopefully more on offense at
slot receiver. My receiver coach is Jeff Huffman and he's a great coach. He's
telling me to be ready to play on offense. I hope to get the ball a lot."
Ohio High magazine has kept an eye on Andrew Dailey since he was a freshman,
and he continues to get better every year. Duane Long, recruiting editor of Ohio
High, wrote of Dailey - "Incredibly, played safety at this size. Reminds me
of ex-Warren Harding standout Prescott Burgess."
Being compared to Burgess is pretty heady stuff for this junior, but with his
skill level, combined with a great attitude, it's easy to see why Dailey is one
of the top prospects in the class of 2007. Andrew Dailey is a player that we
will track very closely at Ohio High in 2005.
