Four-star QB Rob Schoenhoft of Cincinnati St. Xavier
has made his intentions public as he announced he has given his verbal commitment to the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Schoenhoft becomes the eighth commitment to this year's recruiting class. He
also had scholarship offers from Michigan, Michigan State, Florida, LSU, and
over a dozen other schools. His final four were Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan
State, and Notre Dame.
Originally, Schoenhoft seemed to be leaning towards attending Michigan. However, Schoenhoft liked the situation at Ohio State.
"As far as the depth chart, there's a big opening," he said during an interview for this week's Bucknuts Radio Hour. "Playing football for Ohio State is a big time deal in Ohio. You have to be from Ohio to know how big Ohio State football is. It's a great honor to be considered for the quarterback job at Ohio State."
Schoenhoft is known for his tremendous arm strength. He impressed onlookers at the Nike Camp in Columbus back in April with his passing ability.
GoBlueWolverine.com was among those in attendance at the camp and wrote a glowing evaluation of Schoenhoft.
"The three-time Michigan Camper has a ROCKET for an arm," they wrote. "The top-group QB-WR-DB drills were done into a pretty stiff breeze, and only Rob was not bothered by the wind. His deliveries were on the money and 'ropes', even the 40 yard post patterns. Think John Navarre -- but with a bit more mobility. Rob had decent mobility in the early mobility drills -- but he is definitely a Navarre-style pocket passer."
Schoenhoft is rated as the no. 6 QB in the country by theInsiders.com and is
rated as one of the top 20 overall players in the state by Ohio High. He had
1500 yards passing with 15 TDs and 4 INTs last season and has a 2.8 GPA with an
1100 SAT and a 23 ACT.
