Ohio State's football recruiting effort scored another victory today as the Buckeyes secured a verbal commitment from Brian Hartline of Canton (Oh.) GlenOak high school. Hartline is rated as one of the top 15 overall prospects in Ohio in the upcoming Ohio High magazine.

Hartline has long been a strong Buckeye lean, and the talk was that he would commit to Ohio State if he were offered a scholarship. After a solid showing at Ohio State's camp, Hartline was extended an offer and accepted right away.

An outstanding all-around athlete, Hartline (6-3, 175, 4.4) was getting most attention as a wide receiver, but he has said in the past that Ohio State has expressed interest in checking him out at defensive back as well. Hartline also listed offers from Michigan State, Stanford, Vanderbilt, Cincinnati, Iowa, and Pittsburgh.

Hartline had 41 catches for around 550 yards last year. He placed fourth in the 110m hurdles at this year's Ohio state meet with a time of 14.06, and he placed second in the 300m hurdles with a time of 37.51.

"This is a dream come true," Hartline said. "I just wanted to sleep on it a night, and I knew when I woke up that's what I wanted to do."

Hartline opened his junior season at quarterback. But he switched to receiver after three games so his brother, sophomore Mike Hartline, could become the starter at quarterback. Mike Hartline (6-5 1/2, 190) ended up throwing for 1,200 yards over the last seven games. He is now considered as the top junior quarterback in Ohio. Pittsburgh has already expressed interest in Mike Hartline, who joined his brother at OSU's camp last week.

Brian Hartline holds a 3.85 GPA and took the ACT June 12.
