Chillicothe (Ohio) kicker Drew Basil committed to Ohio State in July shortly after receiving his offer. Basil, one of the top kicking prospects in the Midwest, took his official visit to Ohio State this past weekend. Bill Greene has this look at the new Buckeye kicker.

Ohio State under Jim Tressel has long valued the importance of a great kicking game, and Chillicothe's Drew Basil will enter Ohio State in March hoping to be part of that mix.

Basil, one of the top kickers in the Midwest, took his official visit to Ohio State this past weekend, and spent the time getting to know his new teammates and coaches.

"I had a great visit at Ohio State and I would say things went very, very well," Basil reported. "My host was Ben Buchanan and he was a great guy to hang around. I also met with representatives with the academic people and discussed what classes I will be taking. I'm enrolling in March and I want to study business, with a minor in communications."

He also was able to spend time meeting his new teammates and watching Ohio State's bowl practice.

"We ate dinner at the Blackwell and that was really great," he continued. "We had breakfast at the Huntington Club on Saturday morning and then went over to the Woody Hayes Complex. We saw the team practice and we watched the highlight video from this season. I really enjoyed that. The Ohio State coaches had all the recruits speak with members of the current team, and we were encouraged to ask them any questions we had. I thought that was a really good idea by the coaches."

Finally, Basil was able to sit down with Buckeye head coach Jim Tressel for his personal meeting about his situation.

"Sitting down with Coach Tressel is so amazing because he is exactly the way he comes across on television," Basil explained. "There is nothing fake about Jim Tressel. He asked about my future plans and what I hoped to accomplish at Ohio State. I had a lot of questions because I'm enrolling early, in March."

"I will be going through spring football and I hope to be able to contribute to the team next year," he stated. "We never discussed the plans for next year, in terms of red-shirting, or not. I just want to come into Ohio State and do the best I can, and see where that gets me. Hopefully, I get a chance to play next year, but that depends on how well I do."
