Rolle Decides On Buckeyes

After plenty of drama, Brian Rolle has opted to stick with his oral commitment to Ohio State.

It has apparently taken one major realization to show Immokalee, Fla. linebacker Brian Rolle who he should sign a national letter-of-intent with tomorrow:

The realization that he had already given his word to a potential school.

For that, then, Ohio State fans should be thankful. Two days after telling BuckeyeSports.com that he had the Buckeyes even on his list alongside Wisconsin – with Florida also in the mix – Rolle said he is now sure he is going to stick to his pledge to become a Buckeye.

“I did some thinking that I made some commitments to those guys and there’s no sense in me backing off because I’m a man of my word and I want to stick to it,” he said. “I look at it as if I do de-commit and go somewhere else, it’s not only going to look bad for me but our program and our coaches and that will probably hurt Ohio State’s chances of recruiting our school. I just did it and stuck with it.”

That decision came in spite of the fact that the Gators re-affirmed their official offer to him.

“Florida, they offered me (yesterday) again, but I kind of look at it as, ‘I’m not going to disrespect Ohio State,’ so I told all of the guys that,” he said. “I’m going to sign to Ohio State. There’s nothing to worry about. It’s a solid.”

Rolle’s recruiting saga has been a circuitous one. After primarily listing the Buckeyes, Badgers and Gators as his top three schools, Rolle committed to the Buckeyes on Dec. 12 while being visited in his home by OSU head coach Jim Tressel.

But despite that commitment, Rolle continued to discuss the possibility of taking an official visit to Florida and mentioned the Gators and Badgers as still being competition for the Buckeyes. On Saturday, Rolle told BuckeyeSports.com that he had the Badgers and Buckeyes even at the top of his list, with each school having a 40 percent chance of landing him.

Now, however, the Buckeyes should feel lucky the 5-10, 202-pound linebacker committed to them when he did. A more drawn-out decision likely would have resulted in a different outcome.

“I think if I would’ve waited until signing day I probably would’ve been (going to) Florida because I know I probably would’ve taken my official visit, but I didn’t,” he said.

Rolle will sign his national letter of intent to attend Ohio State at 9:15 a.m. on National Signing Day.
