While tying his career high in points last night during Ohio State's basketball win against visiting Jacksonville, junior David Lighty suffered a foot injury that will knock him out for six to 12 weeks. Surgery was performed on the Cleveland native today.

Ohio State basketball player David Lighty has had some rain on his parade.

While tying his career high with 21 points and leading Ohio State to a win against Jacksonville last night, Lighty suffered a broken bone in his left foot. Ohio State head coach Thad Matta announced the injury this afternoon in a statement that says Lighty will miss six to 12 weeks.

Lighty had successful surgery on his foot this afternoon, Dr. Grant Jones said in a release.

Six weeks from today, Dec. 18, is Jan. 29. Ohio State's plays Michigan a day before that and Indiana two days afterward. The NCAA tournament starts on March 19, exactly 13 weeks from today

So far this year, Lighty is averaging 9.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per game for the undefeated Buckeyes, who next play Saturday at home against Iona. No. 16/17 Ohio State is 7-0.

Lighty, a junior from Cleveland, leads the current Ohio State team with 83 games played and 51 starts. He was one of the team's top defenders on the 2007 Final Four team and then moved into the starting lineup last year, where he averaged 9.0 points per game.
