"My head coach told me to call Jim Tressel this afternoon," Woods said. "He gave me Coach Tressel's number and I gave him a call. Coach Tressel said he wanted to offer me a scholarship to Ohio State. He said I was the type of player, and the type of person, that would fit in at Ohio State. It was a brief discussion, but he told me he wants me to play for the Buckeyes. I will be there this Sunday for junior day, and we will talk more then."
Wood, although thrilled with the offer, said there won't be an early decision coming soon.
"I really want to wait and see," Woods explained. "The Buckeyes are number one on my list and I love Ohio State. This is like a dream come true for me, but I'm still going to take my time and make a sound decision. I don't want to do anything quick. I want to talk it over with my parents a little further."
Woods is in the process of putting together an impressive scholarship list.
"I have other offers from Illinois, Kentucky, Northwestern, Cincinnati, Akron and Stanford," he stated. "Most schools are recruiting me as an athlete. Ohio State is recruiting me as safety, I believe. I'm not quite sure. My highlights are mostly on defense, but I like playing receiver, too. Maybe I can play receiver at Ohio State. It's not that important to me, really."
Woods, 6-foot-2 and 190-pounds, has been timed at 4.55 in the forty yard dash. His father, Jamie Sr. was also pleased with the Ohio State offer.
"I was at work, but when I stopped home Jamie told me about the offer," the elder Woods said. "I was hoping to get out of work so I could listen to the conversation between Jamie and Jim Tressel, but I couldn't make it. I am really excited about this offer. Jamie and I are going to a girls basketball game tonight, and we will talk more about this offer after the game. He's getting a lot of offers, and we feel so blessed. Ohio State is his top school. My whole family is all Buckeye. We have the school colors in our carpet in the family room. We love the Buckeyes. I just want to let Jamie talk about this situation, and see where his mind is at. We will talk it over with our family, but I can tell you it's his top choice. Not to brag, but as a father I can honestly say Jamie is a great young man. as a person, he's a great-hearted young man. I'm very proud of my boy. I'm calling all my friends today."
