The Buckeyes found the range from the outside and shot down host Washington in Seattle on Sunday night. Marscilla Packer was one of four Buckeyes to score in double-figures.

With four starters in double-figures and the shots falling from the outside, Ohio State had little trouble picking up its seventh win of the season, this one a 71-54 decision over Washington Sunday night in Seattle.

Marscilla Packer hit a three-pointer to open the scoring on the night, a positive harbinger for her and the 19th-ranked Buckeyes (7-2).

Their senior guard, who has had her share of shooting struggles early this season, hit 4 of her 8 treys before the night was done and finished with a game-high 18 points.

Her deep shooting was part of a team effort that saw the Buckeyes hit 8 of 15 treys.

Ohio State trailed 13-12 when Ashlee Trebilcock went to the line for two free throws with 13:24 on the clock.

The sophomore guard hit the second of those freebies to knot the score and start a 12-0 OSU run in which five different players tallied points.

Packer capped the run with a three-pointer to put Ohio State ahead by double-figures for the first time, 24-13 with 7:14 to go until halftime.

After Washington’s Katelan Redmon momentarily stemmed the tide with a three-pointer, Packer answered with another deep one of her own. Back at the other end Redmon found the range again from behind the three-point arc to cut the Buckeyes’ lead to 27-19, but that was the last good news for the hosts for a while as Ohio State rattled off 10 in a row.

Star Allen had the first four and six total points during the spurt.

The Buckeyes shot 51.4 percent from the field and made 6 of 11 three-pointers in the first 20 minutes and would stretch the lead to 24 before heading into the locker room.

In the second half they led by as many as 27. Jantel Lavender added 14 points for Ohio State while Allen and Trebilcock tallied 10 apiece.

Redmon led the Huskies (4-7) with 11 points while Jess McCormick added 10.

The Buckeyes played for the first time since a win over Ole Miss at home Dec. 2.
