Jon Diebler took another step toward Ohio high school immortality Friday
evening. The 6-6 senior guard ripped off 67 points and unofficially 11 rebounds
on a 20-of-37 shooting night that included 11 3-pointers in a 106-101 overtime
win for Upper Sandusky against Northern Ohio League rival Shelby.
Following Diebler's outburst, his season average is 42.1 points per game
along with 14.3 rebounds per game. His 2,738 career points passed Geno Ford for
No. 2 on the all-time list Friday night. He remains just 220 points away from
tying Jay Burson - which with six guaranteed games remaining (five regular
season and one tournament), Diebler could eclipse with 37 points a game.
Diebler was far from the only Ohio State recruit with a big Friday
evening.
Kosta Koufos had 33 points, 28 rebounds and eight blocks against North Canton
Hoover in a 73-72 victory for GlenOak. The outburst follows last Saturday
night's 32-point, 15-rebound and seven-block performance in a 65-52 win against
Detroit Country Day.
Included in this latest Ohio State basketball "Recruit Tracker," is a
36-point game for junior forward Luke Babbitt; a 22-point game for Dallas Lauderdale against Twinsburg as well as a monster 29-point, 16-rebound and
seven-block performance against Brush Friday.
* Walter Offutt scored 28 points against Center Grove in a 67-63 Warren
Central victory Friday
* On Tuesday, William Buford scored 19 points in a win against Waite. B.J. Mullens continued his fine season with 32 points, 15 rebounds and six blocks
against Bloom Carroll. Also in this update is an addition to his game against
Westerville North, where he recorded four blocked shots.
* Yancy Gates scored 20 points and grabbed 13 rebounds against his former
school - Hughes Center.
* Tyler Griffey scored 20 in a loss and Jared Sullinger registered just 9
points in a blowout win against Centennial.
Stay tuned for more updates Saturday and Sunday.
