The chase is becoming more like a slow walk-through. Just 324 points shy of
tying Jay Burson for the all-time career scoring record in Ohio, Jon Diebler is
ahead of schedule.
Entering his senior season, the 6-6 forward, who is Ohio State-bound next
year, was thought to have an outside chance at Burson's record of 2,958 points
late in the tournament if Upper Sandusky was fortunate to make a relatively deep
run. However, 13 games into the season, Diebler's 39.8 points a game is on pace
to break Burson's record during the first game of the the Rams' sectional
tournament.
In other words: a 22-year old record could possibly be going by the wayside
some time the first week of March at Mansfield Senior High School.
While Diebler continued his assault on the record books with 41 points, 16
rebounds and six assists against Fostoria this past Friday, other future Buckeye
basketball players are trying to keep up.
B.J. Mullens, a 7-1 junior center from Canal Winchester had his third
consecutive game of at least 30 points, no fewer than 18 rebounds and
double-digit blocks when he registered 31 points, 20 rebounds and 11 blocks
against Teays Valley. In the last three games, Mullens has averaged 37.7 points,
20.3 rebounds and 9.3 blocks a game for the Indians.

Jared Sullinger and Deshaun Thomas.
Sullinger is the younger brother of former Buckeye basketball standout J.J. Sullinger. The younger Sullinger, who's brother Julian plays for Kent State, is
a 6-7 freshman forward at Columbus Northland High School. Sullinger currently
averages an estimated 16.7 points and 12.4 rebounds per game.
Meanwhile, super freshman Thomas has been offered by Ohio State. OSU head
coach Thad Matta has already been to Ft. Wayne to see the 6-9 forward in person.
