The stars were aligned and some were even inside Ohio Stadium as Ohio State hosted Michigan for all of the marbles. More marbles, in fact, than any other time in the history of this illustrious rivalry. The home crowd was awesome and The Game certainly didn't disappoint. It had to be one of the greatest days in the history of Ohio State football as the Buckeyes beat the Wolverines, 42-39.

Alan Branch loosening up before the game.

David Patterson takes down Mike Hart after a three-yard gain on the game's first offensive play.

Mario Manningham caught a 24 yard slant on the very next play for Michigan.

Manningham made this 25-yard catch that was ruled down at the one.

And on the very next play from the one...

...Hart ran right in for the touchdown to give Michigian a 7-0 lead with 12:32 remaining on the first quarter clock.

Ted Ginn Jr. returned the ensuing kickoff to the OSU 31 where the Buckeyes started their first possession.

After a few short completions to start the drive, Troy Smith hit a big play on third-and-16...

...to Roy Hall that was good for 27 yards and a first down to keep the drive going.

Smith connected with Hall again on this third-and-five play for 10 yards and another first down...

...

...first and goal at the 9.

Smith found Stan White Jr. in the flat on this play for 7 yards to the 2.

Antonio Pittman got it a yard closer on second down.

And after an Ohio State timeout where T.J. Downing told Branch they were coming right at him...

...Smith found Hall all alone from the one on a third-and-goal situation for a touchdown to tie the score at 7 with 6:03 on the clock in the first period.

Later in the second quarter, the defense led by Vernon Gholston on this play, stops Hart short of a first down and forces a punt...

...when James Laurinaitis cleans up on the play.

And on second-and-four from the OSU 48, Chris Wells got the call and raced 52 yards for the score to give OSU a 14-7 second quarter lead with 12:29 on the clock.

Michigan native, Aaron Gant, makes the tackle on the kickoff cover team on the ensuing kickoff for Ohio State.

Intentional grounding is called on this Chad Henne sack by Antonio Smith.

When Ohio State gets the ball back, Troy Smith finds Ginn deep down the middle on a second-and-one play fake for a 39-yard touchdown to give Ohio State a 21-7 lead with 6:11 remaining in the first half.

Steve Breaston returns the ensuing kickoff 20 yards to the 20 yard line to start Michigan's next possession.

An interference call against Manningham on an incomplete pass on third-and-two gave Michigan new life.

And Henne found Adrian Arrington all alone down the left sideline where he eluded Donald Washington

...and got a block by Breaston on Antonio Smith to go in for a 37-yard score to cut the Ohio State lead to 21-14 with 2:33 left in the half.

But the Buckeyes responded quickly, when Troy Smith eventually hit Anthony Gonzalez for a 8-yard touchdown pass with 20 seconds left before intermission. That catch by Gonzalez made these folks in the stands extremely proud.

But Hart eventually ran in from two yards out on Michigan's first possession in the third quarter to cut the lead to 28-21 at the 12:12 mark in the period.

A Garrett Rivas 39-yard field goal off of an Alan Branch interception of Troy Smith cut the lead to 28-24 with 8:41 in the third before Pittman responded by going 56 yards just two plays later to make the lead 35-24 at the 8:04 mark. Pittman had 139 yards on 18 carries in the game.

Hart would again run in from 1 yard on this play to cut the lead to 35-31 at the start of the fourth period. Hart had 142 yards on 23 carries and three TDs in the game.

Troy Smith would eventually answer that score with a 13 yard touchdown pass to Brian Robiskie. Smith threw for four touchdowns for the game on 29 of 41 for 316 yards.

And after further review, the play was ruled a touchdown as it was called on the field.

But Michigan wasn't quite done just yet. Henne, who finished 21 of 35 for 267 yards in the game and two TDs, found Tyler Ecker for a 16-yard scoring strike to cut the lead to 42-39 with 2:16 still remaining on the clock.

But when Ginn covered the onside kick attempt by Michigan the game was all but over and the final score read Ohio State 42 - Michigan 39.
