Last year, Ohio State secured a verbal from defensive back Aaron Gant of Orchard Lake (Mich.) St. Mary high school, and now they have grabbed another. The latest to select the Buckeyes from Orchard Lake is wide receiver Taurian Washington. Read on for more.

According to sources, Taurian Washington’s dream of committing to Ohio State has become a reality.

Within the last few days, Washington reportedly has received a scholarship offer from the Buckeyes and promptly told the Ohio State coaching staff of his intentions to attend Ohio State beginning next fall.

Bucknuts.com learned through sources that Washington committed to the Buckeyes upon learning of receiving a scholarship offer. Although he could not be reached for comment, Duane Long spoke with his grandmother who said he had in fact been offered and committed, but said to try back at a later time.

“Taurian spoke with someone from Ohio State yesterday,” Washington’s grandmother told Long Tuesday evening during attempts to reach the Washington household. “He did commit. We are very happy."

Washington is a 6-0 180-pound receiver from Orchard Lake, Mich. and would be the seventh player to publicly verbally commit to Jim Tressel and Ohio State in the 2007 recruiting class. He is a four-star rated No. 23 by Scout.com at his position.

Although comments from Washington were not immediately available, it is believed that Washington was elated at the news of receiving a scholarship offer. Sources indicate that he committed on the spot.

At St. Mary Prep, where Washington plays football for his high school, he was a teammate of Ohio State incoming freshman Aaron Gant. He’s also currently a teammate with cornerback Dionte Allen, another prospect the Buckeyes have shown interest in.

Washington attended the Ohio State football camp earlier this summer, where reportedly according to many sources, he was believed to be one of the top receivers in camp. He runs a reported 4.5 40-yard dash with a reported core GPA of 3.0.

Washington committed to the Buckeyes reportedly over Michigan, Penn State, Georgia Tech and Wisconsin. Those four along with Ohio State were the last listed top five Washington gave to Allen Wallace of Scout.com in early July.
