Captain's Corner: Al Johnson

With Al Johnson moving on, the Buckeyes are in the hunt for a new Strength & Conditioning coach. Many say ex-assistant Mike Cochran, now at Marshall, may get a good look. In this week's Captain's Corner, Jerry Rudzinski talks about what makes the position attractive.

With Al Johnson and OSU going in different directions, it will be very interesting to see who Coach Tressel finds as a replacement. As far as strength and conditioning jobs go in the world of college football, it doesn’t get much better than Ohio State.

1.) Working with Coach Tressel
2.) Working with athletes that have tremendous physical upside
3.) NFL exposure
4.) Renovations for the state-of-the-art WHAC
5.) Financial package
6.) The cupboard’s not exactly bare

The list is endless. We could sit here all day talking about why strength coaches drool over the Buckeye job. Coach Tressel should be able to hand pick his guy.

First of all, you have to give Coach Johnson credit for the results during his career. Players drafted, Michigan wins, bowl wins…he can’t take all the credit, but sure gets some of it. He was always first-class whenever I interacted with him. His future is bright.

It is fun to throw Coach Cochran’s name into the mix for the future. Although he is down at Marshall, his Ohio and Tressel ties are deep. You talk about a player favorite?

It should be interesting. Ohio State definitely sits in a position of strength (no pun intended) as they embark on the search. Thank you Coach Johnson for the W’s.
