Wide receiver Aaron Johnson from Baton Rouge, La., is an out-of-state prospect that has been targeted by Ohio State’s coaching staff. Johnson (5-11, 165, 4.4) is considering an impressive list of schools and has already formed a top five. “Ohio State, Auburn, Georgia, Michigan and Florida State,” he said. “I have offers from all of them and Ohio State is my favorite. They’re at the top. I went to camp there last year and I’ll be going back to the one-day camp this year. I like the atmosphere at Ohio State – everything about it. And I like the coaches, too.” Johnson might make a decision this summer. “Probably before football season, or right after,” he said. Johnson – who plays at Southern University Lab High School – is being recruited by OSU recruiting coordinator and tight ends coach John Peterson. “I haven’t talked to him in a while,” Johnson said. Johnson is still very raw as a wide receiver. “I didn’t really play receiver much last year, because that’s what the coach needed me to play,” he said. “The most rushing yards I had in a game was 150. I’m not sure of my total stats.” Johnson also plays cornerback in high school. “I play defense too, but I like receiver best,” he said. “Most schools are looking at me as a wide receiver.” The Louisiana native explained his strengths and weaknesses as a wideout. “I catch good and I’m quick on the field. I like to run deep routes. “For my weaknesses, I just need to get stronger. I’m going to work on that all summer.” Johnson’s team is expected to challenge for the state championship this season. “We’re supposed to have one of the top senior classes in the state,” Johnson said. “Last year, we did good. We lost to the No. 1 team in the state by just seven points in the playoffs. We finished 6-3.” Johnson has been clocked in the mid-4.4 range in the 40, but recently was timed a bit slower. “I went to Nike camp at LSU last weekend and I ran bad,” he said. “I ran a 4.5, but I’m usually faster than that.” Johnson also gave his academic status. “I had a 2.9 last year and I’m about the same this year,” he said. “I got an 18 on the ACT.”
