Lawrence North (29-0) defeated Muncie Central (20-6) 80-56 for its third
straight Class 4A state championship. The win tied the state record with 46
straight wins. It was coach Jack Keefer’s fourth state title.
"What they accomplished is unbelievable,'' Lawrence North coach Jack Keefer
said. "You think any night you're going to stumble, but they just wouldn't let
that happen.''
Greg Oden had 26 points and 11 rebounds, 2 blocked shots. He won IHSAA
Trester
mental attitude award after the game and was named tournament MVP.
Mike Conley had 16 of his 21 points in the first half as Lawrence North built
a 50-24 halftime lead. Conley also had 7 rebounds and 3 assists. They came out
of the game with 1:25 left to a standing ovation at Conseco Fieldhouse.
The win gives Lawrence North 45 straight victories, which ties a record held
by Indianapolis Crispus Attucks -- a team that featured Oscar Robertson.
Lawrence North will also finish atop the USA Today national rankings.
"We felt there was no other way," Conley told the Indianapolis Star. "We've
been together too long for this to be our last night together and not win and
make history. "That means a lot to both of us. For us to do it together, we felt
there was no other way to do it."
OSU coach Thad Matta attended the game.
