Scout.com reporter Bob Lichtenfels reports that earlier this evening, tight end Andy Miller of Washington (Pa.) Trinity High School made his college commitment, selecting Ohio State. Miller announced before his basketball game in his high school gymnasium. (UPDATED at 9:15 pm EST with new quotes)

Earlier Friday evening, Tight end/offensive line prospect Andy Miller of Washington (Pa.) Trinity made his college choice public to the media before a basketball game at his school. Miller announced his decision to play football at Ohio State.

“It came to down to playing and being around the best people," Miller said. "When Ohio State first offered, I asked myself if I could be that type of player, a player that could go there and go well. I don’t think I was that type of player until my last five games. I feel like my confidence built and I could play with the caliber of player the Buckeyes recruit."

Miller (6-6, 260, 4.9) took visits to Indiana, Ohio State, Pittsburgh, and West Virginia. He was offered a scholarship by each school and was also offered by NC State, Illinois, and Marshall.

Some project Miller as an offensive lineman, although he possesses fine athleticism for a player his size and could also project as a tight end. Ohio State is recruiting him as a tight end, which turned out to be a factor in his decision.

"Ohio State made it clear that I would get a shot at tight end," Miller said. "I prefer that position. If I have to gain weight and play tackle, I’ll do that.

"Right now, I feel that I can contribute early. When I say early, I think by my redshirt freshman or sophomore year."

Miller also took a liking to the Ohio State coaching staff.

“I really liked everyone from Coach Tressell on down," he said. "They seem to have a purpose. They want to win and win national championships and they are going to be there for the long term. I won’t have to worry about them leaving.”

Miller also admitted that Ohio State's win in the Fiesta Bowl as well as their winning tradition factored into the decision.

"Yes, I was secretly rooting for Ohio State (in the Fiesta Bowl)," Miller said. "You saw how explosive they were. That’s the type of team I want to play for.

"Ohio State’s history of winning heavily factored into my decision. Who doesn’t want to win games? It seems like you go there and you can guarantee winning football."

Miller, ranked as the No. 50 prospect in Pennsylvania by Scout.com, had nine catches for 193 yards this year and ended his prep career with 20 grabs for 400 yards. He boasts a 3.99 GPA and scored the equivalent of a 1060 on the SAT. He becomes the 15th commitment in Ohio State's recruiting class.
