Doug Worthington was expected to play in the New York vs. New Jersey
Governor's Bowl last weekend, but decided to pull out of the all-star game.
"I didn't go," Worthington said. "It was my last weekend in
New York before coming to Columbus, so I decided to stay here. Plus, there was a
problem with the flight plans. I wouldn't have got back until Monday
morning."
(Fellow Ohio State recruit Malcolm Jenkins was also scheduled to play in the
Governor's Bowl.)
Worthington will arrive in Columbus this Saturday to begin summer quarter.
"I'm looking forward to it," he said. "I'll miss my friends
around here, but I'll make new friends. And I'm just ready to get my college
days going."
Worthington was planning on living with OSU offensive lineman Kyle Mitchum
this summer, but says his plans have changed.
"There is a new rule that I can live in the dorms if I'm taking a
full-load of classes," Worthington said. "So, I'm going to live with
Alex Boone, or Robby (Schoenhoft) or one of the other guys that is coming in
early in the dorms."
The 6-7, 255-pound Worthington says he has been working out hard since
basketball season ended. He has set a goal of not redshirting this season at OSU.
"I just want to get some playing time," he said. "There are a
lot of good D-linemen in front of me, but I just want to work hard, learn my
role and play a little bit this year. It's on me though. It will come down to
how hard I work this summer."
