Jahmal Brown was one of the key components in Cleveland Benedictine’s 2004
Division III state championship.
The 5-10, 190-pound Brown rushed for 1,849 yards and 21 touchdowns. He also
racked up 105 tackles from his middle linebacker spot.
He has no scholarship offers at this point, but is being recruited by a
number of schools.
“He’s getting interest from Illinois, Northwestern, Ohio State,
Wisconsin, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Cincinnati, Maryland and several MAC
schools,” Benedictine head coach Art Bortnick said.
Brown plans on attending several football camps this summer.
“I’m going to try and come here for Ohio State’s,” he said. “And
maybe Pittsburgh’s. Also, maybe Youngstown State, Northwestern and Bowling Green.”
Does he have a favorite school at this point?
“Ohio State would be at the top,” Brown said. “I also like Pittsburgh
and Illinois a lot. Those are my top three.”
Brown runs with power and also has good speed (4.52 in the 40).
But he is also talented defensively and some colleges want him as a safety.
“My heart is at running back, but if I had to play defense, I would like to
play safety,” he said.
Brown is hoping to make a decision this summer.
“As soon as possible,” he said. “Maybe before the season, just to get
it over with.”
And Brown says Benedictine will once again be among the best teams in the
state.
“Well, yeah, we’re going to try and go for the three-peat,” he said.
