Focus '06 - Jason Onybuagu (OL/DL)
By

Most of the top offensive line prospects in the Midwest hail from the Buckeye State but there’s a Hoosier that has been gaining a ton of attention in March. Indianapolis (Ind.) Warren Central’s
Jason Onyebuagu
was named all-state as a junior for the two-time defending state champions and several schools have been in contact.
“I don’t have any scholarship offers yet but I’ve been getting a lot of personal mail.”
Jason Onyebuagu
said.
“
Michigan
,
Ohio State
,
Notre Dame
,
Purdue
,
Illinois
,
Indiana
and
Wisconsin
have been showing me the most interest and they are my favorites.
“I was invited to and plan on going to the Scout.com combine in Champaign on April 23rd. I also plan on camping at
Ohio
State, Michigan and Wisconsin this summer.”
Onyebuagu is a versatile offensive lineman that Warren Central coach Kevin Wright says could end up on the defensive side of the ball in college.
“Jason has been on the varsity with me since he was a freshman,” Wright said.
“As a sophomore, he played center for us and this past year he played guard, center and defensive tackle.
“Jason is extremely athletic. He can stand underneath the basketball hoop, jump up and grab the rim with both hands. That’s the type of explosion he has.
“In my opinion, Jason could be a better defensive tackle in college because of his quickness and strength.”
Greenwood (Ind.) Center Grove head coach Eric Moore had the pleasure of coaching a U.S. Army All-American last year in
J.B. Paxson
. Moore had this to say about Onyebuagu.
“Jason (Onybuagu) is the best lineman I’ve seen in the Indianapolis area in a long time.” Moore said. “He controls the line of scrimmage, he finishes better than any lineman that I’ve seen and he’s relentless.”
Jason Onybuagu carries a 2.7 core GPA in the classroom. He plans on taking his ACT this spring.
Extra Point
-
- There hasn’t been a more talked about interior lineman in March. All the college coaches love him but nobody has offered yet which raises a red flag. Onyebuagu is the real deal but right now all of the colleges that have him high on their recruiting board are waiting to see who offers first. When Jason does get his first offer, I feel several will follow. Who will offer first? Don’t be surprised if it’s
Boston College
. The Eagles do very well in the Midwest and Onybuagu is their type of football player.
