In the Division I semifinals Canton McKinley beat Mansfield Senior pretty convincingly even though Ricky Jackson and Ramar Morgan spent much of the game on the bench due to foul trouble. Later that night, Cincinnati St. Xavier just barely got by their arch-rival Cincinnati Moeller, 43-41. Last season, McKinley was defeated by the eventual state champion, Hamilton High School, in their semifinal round in Columbus.

Last year Raymar Morgan scored 20 points in the state semifinal but the McKinley Bulldogs were eliminated.

This season, Morgan, one of the state's top juniors, got into foul trouble in the semifinal round and finished with 9 points on just 2 of 7 shooting from the floor. He came into the tournament averaging 18 ppg to lead the Bulldogs.

Junior Ricky Jackson had even more foul troubles and finished with 6 points in the game. Jackson was averaging 13.1 ppg prior to the tournament.

Both Jackson and Morgan spent a great deal of time on the bench against Mansfield Senior because they both were in foul trouble.

Junior Todd Brown came up big against the Tygers with 16 points and 8 rebounds.

Brown came into the weekend averaging 9 ppg.

Junior Marcus Parker had 15 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists in the victory.

Parker was averaging 7.8 ppg coming into the state tournament.

Senior Sean Weatherspoon had 10 points in the contest.

Junior Kyrk Freeman had 8 points and 5 rebounds.

Another junior, Sedelle Broyles, had 7 points for the Bulldogs.

Their cheerleaders and fans were treated to a state final appearance in football...

...and a state championship in basketball this season.

Junior Rasheed Reed 16 points and 5 boards in the loss.

Senior Jon Avery had 12 points and 5 rebounds for the Tygers.

Avery was averaging 17.3 ppg before the tournament.

Junior Leonte Carter chipped in with 13 points and 5 rebounds in defeat.

It was the rubber match in the other semifinal as each team won a game on their home floor in their two previous meetings this seasons.

The aggressive pace was set early on in the contest.

And senior Ryan Childress got into early foul trouble and finished with just 6 points and 5 rebounds. He was averaging 16.4 ppg coming into the state tournament.

Future Ohio State quarterback Robby Schoenhoft is like a linebacker on the hardwood for the bombers. Schoenhoft 2 points and 2 rebounds in the victory.

Johnny Wolf does it all for St. Xavier. He had 19 points and 5 rebounds against Moeller.

Wolf was averaging 22.7 ppg coming into the weekend.

Senior Greg Sweeney had 6 points and 2 rebounds in the game.

Junior David Gedeon also had 6 points and 2 rebounds.

And senior Maurice Scales had 4 points and 3 boards.
