Today was an important day for 5-star offensive lineman, Alex Boone as he met with his school guidance counselor and principal to discuss whether or not he would be able to attend for Ohio State for the spring semester.
We spoke with Boone, the 6-8 300-pounder from Lakewood, Oh. (St. Edward’s) and confirmed the decision that came from that meeting.
“I am definitely starting there early, I know that for sure,” Boone confirmed. “I still have to find out if I’m going to be able to play or not.”
Boone, who committed to the Buckeyes back at the end of July, has been preparing for the past month to graduate high school early, and enroll at Ohio State and be able to play in spring practice.
The decision allows him potentially to start school likely in April. But his high school principal will still make the decision on whether or not they will allow him to play spring football with Ohio State.
“That’s correct,” Boone reaffirmed of the stipulations. “They are allowing me to graduate early, but they will still decide whether I’m going to play football or not.”
Bucknuts.com has also learned that the NCAA may also need to make a ruling on Boone's eligibility as well if he enrolls at OSU before completely fulfilling all graduation requirements at St. Ed.
And when might the decision from at least St. Ed come?
“Very soon,” he said. “It’s probably going to be within the next week.
“It’s not the clearest of situations, really, but they did tell me I could start early and that’s what I’m intending to do,” Boone added.
The decision comes on the heels of Boone’s official visit to Ohio State over the weekend. Boone met with his principal this morning at 10 a.m. to learn of the school's tentative decision.
Boone is hopeful that everything will work itself out and he would additionally be permitted under the stipulations of graduating early, to play football in the spring.
