Everything seemed to be going well for running back Javon Ringer of Dayton
Chaminade-Julienne. His senior year was cruising along, and his goal of a
3,000-yard season was getting closer to reality. He was one of the top two
contenders for Ohio Mr. Football.
Then, in a game against Cincinnati McNicholas, Ringer suffered a torn ACL
that has put him on the sidelines for the remainder of the year.
Some have wondered if Ringer's injury would affect his status with Ohio State. We caught up with C-J head coach Jim Place, who said that OSU is keeping
in touch.
"He heard from Ohio State here in the last couple of days," Place
said. "The surgery's scheduled for next Wednesday."
Ringer was reported to be planning an unofficial visit to OSU for the Indiana
game, but Place said Ringer was not there.
"No, he was not," Place said. "He hasn't been to any schools,
as a matter of fact."
The good news for Ringer is that the injury hasn't scared off recruiters. As
a matter of fact, the current No. 1 ranked team in the country is starting to
show heavy interest.
"USC is coming in," Place said. "They said they really like
him and they're going to fly in soon."
Speaking of number one, Ringer was recently informed that he too is going to
be gaining the honor of being a national number one.
"ESPN.com contacted us and said he's their No. 1 back, no
question," Place said.
