Ohio State's athletic communications office just released a brief statement, announcing that senior tailback and co-captain Lydell Ross would miss Saturday's game with Indiana due to suspension.

The statement offered no details for the reasons surrounding the suspension. OSU head coach Jim Tressel apparently made the decision to suspend Ross Friday.

However, broadcast reports in the Columbus area revealed that Ross had been allegedly named in a police report stemming from an incident at the Pure Platinum gentleman's club on Bethel Road. The incident allegedly occurred in the hours following the OSU team's return from Iowa last Saturday night. (Ross netted zero yards on 10 carries in OSU's 33-7 loss to the Hawkeyes.)

According to those reports, Ross has not been charged. But he is listed as a suspect in the police report.

Ross allegedly tried to pass fake money to a 24-year-old woman at the club. The club uses tokens or special bills as currency for beverages and private dances. According to the police report, five $10 "Pure Platinum bills" were used as payment. But the bills were apparently not valid.

The statement from the university also read that nobody from Ohio State would comment on the suspension until after Saturday's game.

Ross was among six seniors who stepped before the media Tuesday night to deflect critical questions toward their underclassman teammates.

"The main thing here is to be focused on what we want, which is to be successful the rest of the season," Ross said Tuesday. "You can no longer think about what's happened in the past. You have to think about what you want in the future. And that's success from now on."

Ross, a senior from Tampa, Fla., leads the team with 343 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 94 carries. He led the team in rushing last season with 826 yards.

He was probably looking forward to playing Indiana as he has had two of his best games (124 yards as a freshman in 2001 and 167 yards last year) against the Hoosiers. It is assumed that freshman Antonio Pittman will start in Ross' place with seniors Maurice Hall and Branden Joe available to back him up.
