Two of the state's top high school prospects suffered injuries during their respective season openers Saturday. Click this link for details on OSU verbal Brian Hartline of Canton GlenOak, Adam Myers-White of Hamilton and Cincinnati St. Xavier's Rob Schoenhoft.

Two of Ohio’s top high school football prospects suffered injuries during action Saturday afternoon.

Hamilton defensive back Adam Myers-White, the state’s No. 4 prospect according to Ohio High, suffered an ankle injury during his team’s 30-7 loss to Cincinnati Anderson at the Skyline Crosstown Showdown at the University of Cincinnati’s Nippert Stadium.

The news was even worse for Canton GlenOak wide receiver Brian Hartline, an Ohio State verbal and the state’s No. 11 prospect. He suffered a double break of bones in his leg as both the fibula and tibia were broken. He suffered the injury returning a punt in his team’s game against Akron Central Hower.

The injury was expected to sideline Hartline, who verbaled to the Buckeyes in late June, for the rest of the year. It was hoped that Hartline would recover in time to participate in track in the spring. He is a state meet-caliber hurdler.

OSU captain Dustin Fox, a GlenOak graduate and a friend of Hartline‘s, was among those who tried to console Hartline on the sideline.

Myers-White suffered his injury while scoring his team’s only touchdown. He took an option pitch and scored from 6 yards out, absorbing a big hit at the goal line as he scored.

“I think it’s just a sprain,” said Myers-White, who left the field on crutches. “I should be able to play next week. I’m just going to go home and rest it.”

Moments after we filed this initial story with those two prominent injuries, another OSU verbal, Cincinnati St. Xavier quarterback Rob Schoenhoft went down with what appeared to be an ankle injury during the third quarter of his team's game with Lakewood St. Edward at the Crosstown Showdown.

He did not return on the following series. We will update his status as details are known.
