Amos Down To Two

Posted Jul 27, 2004

WR Andre Amos of Middletown -- one of Ohio High's top 15 overall prospects in the state -- is down to two schools, and one is Ohio State. Duane Long caught up with him this evening to find out the latest.

Outstanding Middletown WR Andre Amos took a visit up to Ohio State Tuesday and came away pleased with what he saw.

"Yeah, I was up to Ohio State," he said. "It went pretty good.

"I met Coach Tucker, Coach Heacock, Coach Peterson and Coach Tressel. They just showed me around. It was my second time there, but I had never been to the stadium. It was nice, and it was big. I knew it was big, but I just didn't know it was that big."

Amos (6-2, 170) could play on either side of the ball in college, but if he goes to Ohio State, the coaches may have to have a tug-o-war to decide what side gets him.

"(DBs) Coach (Mel) Tucker wants me to play corner," he said. But I talk to (WRs) Coach (Darrell) Hazell all the time, and he wants me (at WR)."

Amos also went to Purdue recently.

"Yes, I did go to Purdue," he said. "I went there last Sunday."

Will he be visiting Michigan, who he had previously listed in his top three?

"No, they're out of it now," he said.

And when asked if he was down to two schools (Ohio State and Purdue), Amos said, "Yes."

When will a decision come?

"Well, I don't know," he said. "I kind of want to get it over with, but I'm just going to go for whenever it feels right."

Whatever the case may be, Amos is sure of one thing, and that is he is anxious for the season to start.

"Really right now, I just want to play football," he said.

Amos and Middletown went up against Dayton Chaminade-Julienne last week. He was very impressed with Notre Dame commitment CB Brandon Harrison.

"He gave me some real competition," he said.

Amos is considered Ohio's No. 12 senior prospect by Ohio High magazine. As a junior, he had 34 catches and scored eight touchdowns. He also runs in the sprint events in track, boasting a stellar 10.8-second time in the 100-meter dash.

Before narrowing his choices, Amos had scholarship offers from Notre Dame, Michigan, West Virginia, Miami (Ohio), Northwestern, Purdue, Wisconsin and Bowling Green.
