With the decision of five-star quarterback Mark Sanchez of Mission Viejo
(Ca.) already made, Buckeye fans now wait for the choice of another outstanding
quarterback prospect Ohio State has offered -- Cincinnati St. Xavier's Rob Schoenhoft.
Multiple sources have informed Bucknuts.com that Schoenhoft will select Ohio
State this week. Schoenhoft is set to attend the Elite 11 camp in California on
Wednesday and told Bucknuts last week during an interview for the Bucknuts Radio
Hour that he planned to announce at the camp.
"If I'm ready -- I think I'm going to be -- I made a commitment to them
that I will commit at the Elite 11 camp, so that's the plan right now," he
said.
Schoenhoft was unavailable for comment today, but during the interview last
week, he seemed excited about the possibility of playing for the Buckeyes.
"I think they're pretty good right now," he said when asked about
his chances of being a Buckeye. "As far as the depth chart, there's a big
opening. Playing football for Ohio State is a big time deal in Ohio. You have to
be from Ohio to know how big Ohio State football is. It's a great honor to be
considered for the quarterback job at Ohio State."
Schoenhoft stands at 6-6, 235 and is known for his tremendous arm strength.
Among the other schools he looked at include Michigan, Michigan State, and Notre Dame. It may be hard for Buckeye fans to understand why a player would like both
Michigan and Ohio State, but Schoenhoft was just honored to be looked at by the
Big Ten's best.
"It's the best of both worlds," he said. "It's the best
of Big Ten football. It's a great honor to be considered."
The timing is right for Schoenhoft, as he is ready to end recruiting and
focus on his senior season for St. Xavier.
"I'm ready to end it and try the best to win a state championship,"
he said. "This is a great honor, but it's time to focus on my own
team."
If he announces for Ohio State as expected, Schoenhoft will be the eighth
commitment for Ohio State this year, seven of whom have four-star ratings or
higher by theInsiders.com, and four of whom are rated in the top ten in their
position by theInsiders.com. He is rated as one of the top 20 prospects in Ohio
by Ohio High magazine, and Duane Long feels Schoenhoft would be the
strongest-armed quarterback to play for Ohio State since Kent Graham in the
early 1990s.
Check back tomorrow to hear more from Rob Schoenhoft as well as Duane Long
and new OSU offensive line commit Kevin Bemoll on this week's Bucknuts Radio
Hour.
