One of the bigger names (pun intended) of the upcoming recruiting season is
that of Tyrell Biggs. Bucknuts caught up with the Bosco Prep star in a big way
on Thursday evening.
Biggs, a 6’7 250-pounder from Ramsey, New Jersey is a top 50 talent that
many schools from the east coast are hoping to land.
“Pitt, Villanova, St. John’s, Connecticut, and Virginia Tech have all
come in to see me lately,” Biggs said. “I’m still interested in a lot of
schools.”
One of the schools that Biggs has had a strong interest in is Ohio State.
Biggs has visited the Buckeyes once for Futures day and liked it extremely well.
“The visit went very very well,” he said. “I liked the campus an awful
lot. It was a nice place with very good people. It was a great visit.”
Biggs has not been talking much about the Buckeyes lately in published
reports, but he insisted that Ohio State was very much still in the running.
Some reports have suggested Biggs might be apprehensive about leaving the
East coast, and while that might be true, he says it’s not necessarily the
end-all of his decision.
“It’s not a priority,” Biggs said of staying close to home. “It’s
still up in the air as to whether or not I’m going to do that.”
As Biggs continues to listen to coaches sell themselves and their schools,
his AAU team Riverside Church prepares to head out to Houston, Texas for the
weekend. Riverside will join nearly 400 other AAU teams in the Kingwood Classic,
a who’s who of nationwide talent.
“We’re doing real well so far,” Biggs said of Riverside.
Biggs said he is looking for team chemistry, how comfortable he is with the
coaching staff, and how well he fits in to the team itself as the main factors
in his decision.
When asked what stood out about Ohio State, many of those same things were
readily apparent to him, especially the coaching staff.
“The staff really stood out to me,” Biggs said. “They are outgoing,
nice, very friendly, and very easy to talk to. They are very good people.”
Biggs will likely make a decision at the end of the summer. In the meantime,
look for him to play big, and not just because of his name.
