A player who is looking to establish himself at camps this year is Wellston's
Lance Phillips. The LB/DE talked about what happened at camp yesterday.
"I had a great time going up against all those great athletes. It was a
great experience," he said. "I ran a 4.9 40, but I couldn't be more
disappointed in that. I know I can run a 4.7.
"I had 26 reps of 185, 25 1/2 inch vertical, and I weighed 243. I was a
little surprised at that; I thought I'd roll in there at 248-250. I thought I
did well in the one-on-ones. A lot of very quick guys up there."
The work keeps on going for Phillips as he is going to continue to try to get
the 40 time down.
"I am going to work so hard to get down to 4.7. I know I can get there
by camp time," he said. "I am going low-rep, high weight work, and it
really seems to be helping."
What's on the agenda for Phillips camp-wise?
"I am going to Notre Dame for the spring game," he said. "I'm
going to Ohio State, West Virginia, Miami (OH), and Marshall for camps. Maybe
some others."
While at OSU, Phillips did not get the chance to take in any OSU practices.
"I didn't get a chance to go over to practice," he said. "I
had two of the biggest blisters you've ever seen after camp, so I went straight
home."
Who impressed him at camp?
"Brandon Harrison was great," he said. "B.J. Travers, D.J.
Burris (junior OL from Kenton). (He's) very mobile, very strong, 660 squat at
the state meet. (Javon) Ringer and (Tyrell) Sutton. They all passed the look
test."
