Plenty of attention has already been given to Todd Denlinger, the excellent
DT prospect out of Troy, OH who will rate as one of Ohio's top overall prospects
this year. However, his teammate DT/OL Ryan Custer (6-4, 290) is also a fine
looking prospect and is already hearing from a wide variety of schools as he's hearing from West Virginia, Colorado, Michigan State, Pitt,
Kentucky, Navy, Air Force, Yale, Harvard, Duke.
It's not hard to guess based on that list that Custer is an excellent
student.
"I got a 3.75," he said. "I'll be taking the SAT in two weeks."
Not surprisingly, education will play the biggest role for Ryan in picking a
college. He is looking to either go into engineering or a tech major.
"That is going to determine what I do as far as college is
concerned," he said.
Ryan said he would like to hear more from Notre Dame, Michigan and Purdue. He
will also be attending Ohio State camp, Nike Camp, and the MSL camp.
"I think I'm
going to Michigan camp," he added.
Right now, the focus athletically for Ryan is all on football.
"I'm not playing a spring sport," he said. "I didn't play a winter sport. We're doing
"Bigger, Stronger, Faster", so we don't do maxes. I do 235 for five reps. The last
time I tried to max I did a 290 bench."
Ryan is a prospect who could play on either side of the ball in college. He
may get his first look on defense, but he could easily play OL as well.
"I prefer defense, but I'm fine with playing offense," he said.
"That won't factor into
my decision."
Ryan has been on the Bowling Green campus with teammate Todd Denlinger, but
that is the only college he has been so far. Don't look for him to decide until
he looks around some more.
"I don't know when I'm going to make a decision but I think I'm going to wait
and take my visits," he said.
