SCHOOL: Cleveland Glenville
SIZE: 6-foot, 195-pounds
STAR RANKING: FOUR-STAR
POSITION RANKING: Number-four safety
Smith has good size for the position. He has not had a true stopwatch put on him, but he has great football speed. A large part of that is that he is a smart, instinctive player who sees things quickly, which allows him to play faster. He has a nose for the football and is a well rounded kid, equally comfortable in coverage as he is against the run. He's a big hitter and a sure tackler who can play up in the box when needed. He shows great ball skills as well as the timing and anticipation to jump routes. Although not asked to do it much at Glenville, he has shown he can play man to man in camp settings, although his technique in that area is still a work in progress.
WHY Ohio State: "Ohio State was the right school for me because it was home away from home, and the place I always wanted to go," Smith stated. "Throughout the recruiting process I always had my eye on Ohio State, but the other schools were great too."
"I will be at Ohio State in June, and I'm excited to be a Buckeye," Smith said. "I'm going to play safety for them, and I'm ready to get going."
Another of the members of the Ohio State 2014 recruiting class has faxed his letter of intent to the Buckeye coaching staff. Erick Smith is officially a Buckeye.
Ohio State has added another Buckeye to the 2014 class.
