 Midlands Blog(11/11/2013)

Greg Powers:
Zaycoven Henderson, a 6-foot-1, 300-pound defensive tackle from Longview (Texas) High announced that he was down to three schools reporting, “Texas, Baylor, Texas Tech”.

Henderson says that his announcement was in no particular order and that he has a desire to play for an in-state school.

He is rated as a Scout.com four-star prospect, the No. 21 defensive tackle nationally.

Longview is set to take on Flower Mound (Texas) Marcus High in the forts round of the 5A-D1 Texas State playoffs Saturday at 4:00 pm at Kincaide Stadium in Dallas, Texas.

Henderson is a Semper Fidelis All-American.

Roderick Johnson, a 6-foot-7, 320-pound offensive tackle from Florissant (Mo.) Hazelwood Central High racked up offers from coast-to coast, but has settled in on a top three of Florida State, Alabama and Ohio State.

He and his Hazelwood Central teammates are currently 11-0 with a huge match-up with St. Louis (Mo.) Christian Brothers College looming this Friday.

Greg Powers:

Offers continue to roll in for Dallas (Texas) Pinkston defensive lineman Trey Carter, who added some major ones to add to his ever growing list.

“Trey Carter was offered by Miami,” said the Pinkston recruiting coordinator.

The Canes join schools like Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Oklahoma State, TCU and Ole Miss amongst a number of others. Carter has become one of the hottest prospects in the Midlands.

This weekend he will be using one of his five official visits to see Oklahoma take on Iowa State in Norman, Okla.

Greg Powers:
Dimarya Mixon, a 6-foot-3, 265-pound defensive line formerly of West mesquite (Texas) High made a verbal commitment to play for Tennessee during an official visit to Knoxville this past weekend.

Mixon signed with Nebraska in the Class of 2013, but did not enroll after failing to meet academic qualifications, putting him back on the recruiting market.

Now that he has gained the necessary requirements he will be able to enroll at Tennessee in January.

“I get to come in early in January and it is just a great opportunity for me,” Mixon informed of his commitment. “Getting us in here early means we get to help right away.”

Mixon was a high three-star recruit coming out of high school as a Class of 2013 recruit.

Greg Powers:
Justin Dunning, a 6-foot-3, 190-pound safety from Whitehouse (Texas) High has virtually missed his entire junior season with an ACL tear, but that did not slow his recruitment much, as he had already established himself as one of the top prospects in Texas with strong senior year and summer camp season.

Offers came in from all over, but it was one from Texas A&M that stuck out the most and he accepted an offer to play his college ball for the Aggies on Sunday.

Dunning said, “I want to play for a staff that is great at developing players and have a strong relationship with the players on their team.”

He is rated as a Scout.com four-star prospect, the No. 10 safety prospect in America.
