Big Ten Media Kickoff live thread.
If you want to watch Big Ten football this year, apparently you will want to watch Ohio State.
Three Buckeyes -- quarterback Braxton Miller, weakside linebacker Ryan Shazier and cornerback Bradley Roby -- were named by the league this morning as among the five Players to Watch in the Leaders Division. Miller was a unanimous choice in a vote of league media members.
They are joined by Penn State wideout Allen Robinson and Wisconsin linebacker Chris Borland.
On the Legends side, the Players to Watch are Michigan quarterback Devin Gardner, Wolverines left tackle Taylor Lewan, Michigan State linebacker Max Bullough, Nebraska quarterback Taylor Martinez and Northwestern running back Venric Mark.
The Players to Watch release kicks off the Big Ten Media Days, which are set to begin today in Chicago.
The league used to release a preseason poll picking its top three teams, but that was done away with a few years ago in lieu of the watch lists.
The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer still does a preseason poll of league media members, which Ohio State dominated in its Monday release. Of the 26 media members polled, 25 picked the Buckeyes to win the Big Ten, with Miller the league preseason offensive player of the year and Shazier named the preseason defensive player of the year.
The Buckeyes are coming off a 12-0 season, and Miller was the league's MVP.
However, all is not well after the announced suspensions of four players on Monday, including Roby, who was charged with misdemeanor battery over the weekend. He was replaced at the media days event with safety Christian Bryant, who is joined in Chicago by head coach Urban Meyer, left tackle Jack Mewhort and Miller.
Meyer will also likely have to answer questions about the indefinite suspension of running back Carlos Hyde, who remains a person of interest in a weekend assault. He will face the media at the podium at 1:30 Eastern today.
Stay tuned to BuckeyeSports.com all day for updates from Chicago. The first coach to take the stage will be Northwestern's Pat Fitzgerald at 11 ET.
