Wide Receiver (#29 WR, ****)

His Recruiting Story

Roberts's father, Alfredo Roberts played for the Miami Hurricanes and was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs before winning two Super Bowl rings with the Dallas Cowboys.

With his father coaching for the Buccaneers, Roberts began his high school career with at Plant High School in Tampa. After his sophomore season, one in which the tam won a state title, he added spring offers from Iowa, Indiana and then Miami (Fla.).

His father then accepted a position with the Indianapolis Colts, and Roberts moved to Carmel High for his junior year. Before that season began he would add offers from Purdue, Florida, Stanford, Northwestern and Ohio State to his list.

He battled injuries during his junior year, but still managed to catch 32 passes for 378 yards and five touchdowns.

He would add more offers and accolades after the season, earning an invite to The Opening after a strong Chicago NIKE Camp. With many thinking Ohio State, USC, Alabama and others were ahead of the pack, Roberts added a UCLA offer in mid-July and committed to the Bruins shortly after.

Scouting Report:
Roberts is a big bodied kid who some think may grow into a tight end. He impressed andd surprised this spring, running a 4.51 electronic.

At Carmel, he was used, the majority of the time, as a possession type. He caught a lot of short to intermediate passes and was used on receiver screens as well.

He's athletic and fast enough to remain at wide receiver. That does not mean he won't continue to grow towards H-Back/tight end, but he's shown us in 7 on 7s and other events that he can stay at his natural position.

He's strong, solid after the catch and is a good blocker on the outside. He can continue to work on his consistency with catching the ball and refine his other positional skills, but he has great measurables.

Overall:
A smart, high character kid with good size and speed, Roberts is a good fit for the Bruins. He's going to be a great program kid and a great locker room guy. The upside is there because of his natural gifts and he is a kid who is going to work at it. He may need a year or two, but the Bruins did well to pull him away from some pretty good programs.
