Minnesota men's basketball team will be heading out West this upcoming season to take part in the Maui Invitational. The Golden Gophers will face Syracuse, tournament directors announced. The game will be played at 4:30 CT on November 25 at Lahaina Civic Center in Maui.
This will be a very exciting matchup for first year coach, Richard Pitino as he will face off against one of the legendary coaches in all of basketball history in Coach Jim Boeheim. Coach Boeheim lead his team last year to a Final Four appearance, but they fell short of advancing to the National Championship by losing to Michigan of a score 61-56. The Gophers will get their fair amount of zone early in the season as the Orangemen only play a 2-3 zone. It can really create a lot of turnovers and result in a lot of transition points. Minnesota will have to attack the zone and not settle for the three ball. Minnesota's talented guards in Andre Hollins and Austin Hollins will have to pick apart the zone and be patient with it.
The winner of the Syracuse-Minnesota game will face the winner of a pairing between Arkansas and California. Here is the whole rest of the bracket and see what the Gophers will have to go through to win this iconic tournament below.
