Ohio State head basketball coach Thad Matta announced the promotion of Greg Paulus from video coordinator to assistant coach and the hiring of Jake Diebler on Monday. The OSU coach also announced the team's full nonconference schedule. Get the full story inside.

Ohio State head basketball coach Thad Matta made what many expected official Monday morning when he announced the promotion of Greg Paulus from video coordinator to an assistant coach.

Paulus replaces the departed Chris Jent, who took an assistant job under Mike Malone’s staff with the NBA’s Sacramento Kings. The 26-year-old was thought to have been the main candidate for a vacant assistant coaching job at Northwestern under newly hired coach Chris Collins in March, but that move never came to fruition.

As it turned out, Paulus didn’t have to leave Columbus to find a big promotion.

“I’ve had a long association with Greg from recruiting, watching him as a player and working with him as our video coordinator the last couple years,” Matta said. “He has done all the right things to make himself ready for this opportunity. We are fortunate to add his basketball experience and knowledge to our coaching staff.”

Joining Ohio State’s coaching staff as the new video coordinator is Jake Diebler, the older brother of former Buckeyes guard Jon Diebler, the most prolific three-point shooter in the history of Big Ten basketball.

The elder Diebler spent the last two seasons as an assistant at Valparaiso, and Matta said he’s excited about the experience he brings to the coaching staff.

“Jake comes from an accomplished basketball family,” Matta said. “He has been a winner as a player at the high school and collegiate levels and has continued that success into the coaching ranks. His work ethic is second to none and I know he will be a fantastic addition to our basketball family.”

Matta also announced Ohio State’s 18-game nonconference schedule, which kicks off on Nov. 9 against Morgan State in Value City Arena before the Buckeyes host in-state rival Ohio three days later. OSU is 17-4 all time against the Bobcats, the alma mater of OSU assistant Jeff Boals.

Highlighting OSU’s nonconference schedule are home games against future conference foe Maryland in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge, a neutral site game against Notre Dame in Madison Square Garden in New York City, and a road game at Marquette. Following is the complete nonconference schedule:

Nov. 9 Morgan State
Nov. 12 Ohio University
Nov. 16 @ Marquette
Nov. 20 American University
Nov. 25 Wyoming
Nov. 29 North Florida

Dec. 4 Maryland
Dec. 7 Central Connecticut State
Dec. 11 Bryant
Dec. 14 North Dakota State
Dec. 18 Delaware
Dec. 21 Notre Dame in New York City (MSG)
Dec. 27 or 28 Louisiana-Monroe
