Injury questions remain for training camp

The Vikings still expect Chad Greenway to be ready for training camp but are waiting to see on two others.
The word on
’s expected return to practice is the same following knee surgery as it was prior to the surgery: He is still expected back at the start of training camp.
Greenway had surgery Wednesday morning on his knee after an MRI revealed tension in the knee, but everything with his surgery went well, according to head coach Leslie Frazier, speaking Wednesday noon at the Vikings Children’s Fund Golf Tournament.
Greenway practiced the first two weeks of organized team activities, which are voluntary sessions, but he wasn’t at practice this week. He won’t participate in next week’s three-day mandatory minicamp, either, the last five practices of the offseason before the start of training camp.
The Vikings wanted to get Greenway’s knee issue cleared up before the team heads to Mankato for the start of camp.
“We just wanted to get it done now rather than run into a situation where we get into camp and it continues to bother him and then we’d have some issues that we’d have to deal with there,” Frazier said.
The team will also be without the services of undrafted rookie linebacker
at next week’s minicamp. Frazier announced that Williams had arthroscopic surgery on an ankle, but he, too, should be ready for training camp.
The Vikings are monitoring the progress of a couple other players before training camp, including starting center
Childs had surgery last August to repair both of the patellar tendons in his knees that were torn simultaneously at training camp. He has been running and cutting hard in workout sessions separate from OTA practices, but he wasn’t ready to put a timeline on his return to practice.
“We’ll still wondering and not sure about where he’ll be at,” Frazier said.
“Nobody has outworked him in his rehab. He’s done a terrific job in that regard. Now, he’s having to overcome something that you rarely see in our game when you see what he did to both knees. But you can’t fault his work ethic. It has been off the charts. So he’s a guy that everybody’s pulling for. We all want to see him come back and play and play at a high level. He has worked hard. Extremely hard.”
Sullivan had microfracture surgery and the team is hoping he will be ready for training camp.
“We’ve still got to see a little more progress out of John Sullivan. He’s making progress, but we want to continue to see that,” Frazier said.
“You just want to see him continue to gain confidence and not be worried about the surgery but just move on. And he’s making progress. From everything that (athletic trainer) Eric Sugarman tells me, he’s on target. He’s moving in the right direction and we’ve got enough time for him to continue to improve. Hopefully when we get started, he’ll be able to go full go right away.”
