Helm Checks Out Two Big Ten Powers

Four-star tight end Daniel Helm took in both Ohio State and Michigan this past weekend, and the Chatham (ILL) Glenwood prospect discussed both visits with FOXSportsNEXT. Helm also listed a top-four, and talked of a time frame for making his choice of schools.

The nation's fourth rated tight end, Daniel Helm, visited Ohio State and Michigan this past weekend, after taking an SEC excursion that saw him scan the campuses at Florida, Tennessee, and Ole Miss.

The trip to Columbus took place on Friday.

"I got there around 11 and stayed until 6, so I was there for almost a full day," Helm explained. "I got a tour of the Woody Hayes Athletic Center and some of their other facilities. They showed me the academic side of things, and how their athletes get taken care of. I spoke to their strength coach, and then I met with Coach (Urban) Meyer before practice."

"I was able to watch practice and got to see a little bit of how their tight ends are used," he continued. "Coach (Tim) Hinton showed me after practice even more on how they use the players at my position, and Coach Meyer spoke with me briefly after the practice."

Despite the attention from the staff and the tour of the facilities, Helm is unsure where the Buckeyes stand.

"I enjoyed the visit a lot, but I'm not exactly sure if an offer may come," said Helm. "Coach Hinton said they would continue to evaluate me after their spring game and I would know more later on, but I'm just unclear on how to consider them moving forward. It was a cool to see another campus and to check them out, but even if they decide to offer, I don't think they would join my top four schools."

The Chatham (IL) Glenwood four-star prospect left the Buckeyes' campus to attend the Wolverines' Spring Game in Ann Arbor, and Hoke's staff impressed Helm once again.

"It was a great time," Helm stated. "My dad was able to check out their campus and that was one of the reasons I wanted to make it back there. I got to see them play a bit, and I was able to hang out with some of the Michigan players which was the best part of the visit."

"Michigan is a school I really, really like," Helm continued. "My visits there went well both times."

There isn't one visit over the past month and a half that sticks out to Helm but he does have four schools he's focusing on.

"The four schools I have really grown to like are Michigan, Tennessee, Florida, and Ole Miss," he said. "Most likely my choice will come from one of those four schools."

"I'll have a decision before my season starts," Helm explained. "It will probably take place over the summer, but perhaps earlier than that."
