Is Edwards Ohio's Top CB?

One of the fastest rising prospects in Ohio for the class of 2014 is Cincinnati Winton Woods cornerback Mike Edwards. The four-star prospect has put together an impressive offer list to date.

One of the top players in Ohio for the class of 2014 is Cincinnati Winton Woods cornerback Mike Edwards, and he is currently listed as the number-17 prospect in the state.

Edwards, 5-foot-11, 175-pounds, is a four-star recruit with offers from the likes of Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Kentucky, Nebraska and West Virginia.

"I have 17 offers right now," Edwards stated. "The ones standing out the most would be Kentucky, Louisville and West Virginia, but I'm still in the process of learning about all these schools that have offered."

"West Virginia is my latest offer and I've been talking to them for a long time," he added. "I've always liked them and I was really happy to get that offer. I was there last year for the Marshall game and loved it."

"I visited Louisville last week and met with Coach (Charlie) Strong," he continued. "It was great being there, and I love the program. I've been to Kentucky three times, and I'm going back for their spring game. I really like the coaching staff a lot."

There are several other visits on the schedule for Edwards this spring, as Big Ten schools are starting to show interest.

"I'm planning on going to Michigan and Michigan State, and I'm interested in both schools," Edwards stressed. "Michigan says they're close to offering, and Michigan State wants to see my speed before offering."

"I'd love to have an offer from Ohio State, and I visited there last week," he noted. "Coach (Kerry) Coombs is great and he tells me they like me a lot. I really like it there a lot and I'm going to go to camp. Coach Coombs wants to see me play cornerback in person, and I'm fine with that."

SCOUT'S EVALUATION: With great burst and hips Edwards is a player college coaches will be in hot pursuit of in the 2014 recruiting class. While he excels in coverage, Edwards is also extremely strong in run support and not afraid to make the big hit. Shows the ability to catch the ball and is also a major threat on special teams in the return game. - Dave Berk.
