Nnadi and Ocean Lakes Bounce Back

Virginia Beach, Va. – Before the season started, expectations were high for Ocean Lakes' (Virginia Beach, Va.) football team. Six games into the season, it is safe to say that the Dolphins and junior defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi have lived up those expectations.

Last week's Ocean Lakes – Salem game was one that everyone in the Tidewater area circled on their calendars before the season started. Ocean Lakes came out on top and moved to 6-0 this season.

"This was an important game because last year in the playoffs they shut us down – that was painful," said Derrick Nnadi. "So as soon as the season started, our main goal other than going 1-0 every week was to beat Salem."

Nnadi is happy with his play this season, but wants to continue to get better.

"I'm pretty proud of the way I've played this season," said the 6-foot-2, 295-pound defensive tackle. "But there are still things I need to fix and things I need to work on."

The No. 11 defensive tackle in the 2014 class was dominant last week and has been all season. Not surprisingly, Nnadi is attracting interest from many major college football programs.

"I have six offers – Illinois, UVA, N.C. State, ODU, Virginia Tech, and North Carolina" Nnadi said. "I'm also getting some interest from Alabama."

While recruiting is picking up for Nnadi, his main focus is the rest of his junior season.

"We just need to go 1-0 every week and get a state championship," he said.

Ocean Lakes travels to Green Run on Friday.
