Freshman safety Jeremy Cash has transferred to Duke, and will begin classes next week. He will be forced to sit out the 2012 football season, but will have three years of eligibility beginning with the 2013 football season.
Cash, 6-foot-2, 195-pounds, came to Ohio State from Plantation (FLA) High School along with teammate Ryan Shazier. Cash played sparingly as a freshman and was thought to be in line for more playing time next season. The Cash family issued a statement Friday morning regarding the transfer.
"First off, I want to say there are absolutely no hard feelings at all toward Urban Meyer, Luke Fickell, or The Ohio State University," Cash's step-father, Byron Martin, stated Friday morning. "We want to thank everyone at Ohio State for the opportunity they gave Jeremy, and he enjoyed his time in Columbus. The transfer is just the right move for Jeremy at this time, and we appreciate Coach Meyer and Coach Fickell for their help and understanding. Our family wants to especially thank Jim Tressel for all he did for Jeremy, and continues to do today. We wish all the best for The Ohio State University in the future."
